4 members of the GRHS choir selected from all over the region


GLEN ROSE – Avril Tovar, Kayla Hughes, Weston Henry and Gracie Smith, members of the Glen Rose High School Junior Choir, have been shortlisted for the regional choir and will compete at Benbrook Middle School in November in the pre-competition. zoned.

The Glen Rose College Choir took a total of 16 students to Alvarado High School last Saturday to audition in the TMEA Region 5 Small School Choir competition. Ultimately, Hughes was ranked second soprano, while Tovar was ninth; Smith was ranked sixth viola chair; and Henry was chosen as the ninth chair bass.

“I am very excited to have these four students join the choir,” said Glen Rose choir director Samuel Teal. “They worked really hard and faced tough competition from the best choirs in the state.

The choir members learned three choral songs and competed in front of five judges in their vocal part, Teal said.

If any of the four students show up for the audition in November, they will move on to Texas Woman’s University in January for the regional competition for a chance at being named to the Texas All-State Small School Choir.

Teal also said they will perform at the Region 5 clinic on Saturday, November 13 at 5 p.m. at the GRHS auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

• CHURCH CONCERT MONDAY: The GRHS Varsity Choir will hold its fall concert Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public. The choirs of the GRJH will also be present.

“It’s even more awesome to host the concert this year,” Teal said. “It’s a new year for the Varsity Choir, and they’re creating a new sound.”

• PANCAKE DINNER: The GRHS and GRJH choirs are organizing their ninth annual red pancake dinner and silent auction on Tuesday, October 12 from 3:35 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Glen Rose cafeteria. The cost is $ 5 per person for the famous red pancakes, sausage and a drink from the choir. They are also available for take out from the rear bus drive.

During the silent auction, individuals can bid on baked goods and other student items.

All tickets and auction items sold are used for student competition and travel expenses for the year. Tickets can be purchased at the door or from a student of the GRHS or GRJH choir.
