Burlington Public School celebrates 50th anniversary with weekend events

A Burlington elementary school is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a two-day celebration next week.

Dr. Charles Best Public School, 3110 Parkgate Cres., is turning 50 and will be hosting events Friday and Saturday in honor of the milestone.

On Friday, October 28, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the school will host a drop-in event, Meet and Treats, for current and former students, staff, and the community.

Visitors can tour Memory Lane, which will include photos and artifacts collected over the years, and walk around the school to see what has changed and what has stayed the same.

“Being the Principal of Dr Charles Best PS has given me the opportunity to learn and reflect on the long-term impact the school has had and continues to have on students, families, our local community and the world village,” Thomson said.

On Saturday, October 29, from 10 a.m. to noon, the school will host a series of activities to commemorate the special occasion.

Included will be a performance by the school choir, a tree planting donated by a retired teacher, and speeches by Director of Education Curtis Ennis, Superintendent Aiman ​​Flahat and Principal Paul Thomson.

Memory Lane will once again be open to visitors, there will be a graffiti wall to sign, a slideshow presentation and a photo booth. The school has created a time capsule, which will be opened at a later date, which will be displayed during the celebration.

Additionally, a teacher and a student who attended the school for the first year will discuss the impact the school has had on many people in the community.
