Southeastern Oklahoma State University is celebrating the upcoming holiday season with traditions old and new.
The oldest event on campus – candlelight lighting – took place for the 101st time Monday night at the Montgomery Auditorium.
Several ensembles have performed including the Symphonic Chorus, Southeastern Chorale, SE Wind Ensemble, SHARE Children’s Chorus and a faculty string quartet.
The theme for this year, âMy spirit rejoicesâ, is a quote from the biblical text âMagnificatâ, in which Mary accepts the news of the angel. The combined choirs performed a full âMagnificatâ by Antonio Vivaldi, accompanied by a string quartet, and the various ensembles presented other smaller works focusing on Mary’s story.
And for the second year in a row, Southeastern invites everyone to the ânewâ event driving the holiday tradition of Loop of Lights.
This ânewâ tradition was born last year, with lights and decorations displayed around the campus loop for motorists to see. The event began on December 1 and will run through December 31 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
On Sunday evening, holiday entertainment was offered on a loop, including performances by the Sparks, Chorvettes, Band, Choir, Bolt and the Savage Storm Cheerleaders.
