Today, the city of Saline announced Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DCI) trainings scheduled for early next month.
âCreating an environment where everyone feels safe and welcome is a key priority for the city government,â said Brian Mayor Marl. âAs such, we are delighted to host another round of DCI staff trainings and welcome other individuals and community groups to participate. “
Police Chief Jerrod Hart added, âOne of the goals identified by our community through the strategic planning process includes ongoing training and educational opportunities for our staff with an emphasis on cultural competencies. The diversity, equity and inclusion trainings offered by the City of Saline offer staff the opportunity to review and improve our on-service and off-service interactions with our diverse citizens and a higher degree of understanding concerning those who have been historically marginalized. We are committed to building relationships with all members of the community. Therefore, all SPD staff have participated or are expected to attend the training, including our two new officers who are starting their careers next week. Please join us as we learn to create a safe and welcoming environment for all. “
The next DCI trainings will take place on Monday, September 13 in two different sessions in the council chamber of the town hall of Saline, 100 N. Harris St. The first session is from 9 am to noon and session 2 is from 1 pm to 4 p.m.
DCI trainings will be facilitated by Mr. Dionardo Pizana, DCI Facilitator with the MSU Extension.
The sessions are currently scheduled for in-person participation in the council chamber of the town hall of Saline. Each session will be limited to 30 participants. If the COVID restrictions change, it is possible that these workshops will move to a virtual platform.
RSVPs are required – If residents of the Saline community wish to attend, they are encouraged to connect with Human Resources Specialist Elle Getschman at (734) 429-4907 ext. 2212 or at [email protected]
