Elaine Christian, the chair of the Bicentennial Commission, said, “Well, we’ve had a hard time keeping this a secret because we’re so excited to bring the Commodores into this exciting conclusion to the Bicentennial year.”

LoLo will be opening the concert on Saturday August 13, “It’s great to play for this. I was born and raised here and I got to be part of something that just celebrates the city, celebrates history and brings people together,” she said.

But the celebration is not just a concert, the weekend is filled with events.

“August 12th will start as a civic center with our 200-voice choir…and then Saturday August 13th is a full day, starting with the parade through downtown Jackson, focusing on the Bicentennial of yesterday, today and tomorrow Then we have our time capsule that will enter and be in the downtown bicentennial park,” said Christian.

Saturday night, the Commadores and LoLo will perform. And it all ends with a bang! Fireworks after the concert.

LoLo thinks the event is good for the community, “I think it’s really important to celebrate where we are and how far we’ve come as a city.”
